This morning we started out early again, hoping to find those big cats that are most active at dawn and dusk. Our guide, Elvis, yes, that's really his name, started looking for tracks down our narrow dirt road. First, he spotted the tracks from a pride of lions, with several females and at least one cub. Look at the big and small footprints in the photo I'm posting, you can see the cub's prints clearly, right next to mom's prints.
As we rounded a bend, we suddenly came upon two large male lions right in the road, looking half asleep. It was very misty and wet this morning and the big cats were on the warm and relatively dry roads instead of the wet grass. We startled the lions up, and one immediately moved into the brush. The other one clearly had an injured paw and slowly limped into the brush and got behind the closest tree, not 20 feet from us. They both sat down, probably waiting for us to stop bugging them so they could head back out to the warm road.
We didn't see any females or cubs.
